China Says Surge of Illness Not Caused by New Virus
China is experiencing a surge in respiratory diseases caused by known viruses and bacteria, not new pathogens.
The surge in illnesses occurred after China lifted its COVID lockdowns and people began gathering again.
The World Health Organization and Chinese health officials state that hospitals have not been overwhelmed and the current surge is still lower than pre-pandemic levels. [ more ]
